 New PC
It's been over 5 years since I last built a PC so it's safe to say it was way past due. My new system:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit Processor: Intel I5 750 (2.67 Ghz overclocked to 3.2 Ghz) Memory: 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws series DDR3 1600 Mobo: MSI P55-GD65 HD: 300GB WD VelociRaptor 10,000 RPM Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 275 Case: Apevia X-Cruiser2 Power supply: Raidmax RX-630Z
The I5 750 processor only handles up to DDR3 1333 so at stock the I/O bus for the memory was clocking at 667 Mhz rather than 800 MHz that DDR 1600 normally clocks at. With overclocking I'm getting the memory to run at 754 MHz so the data rate transfer is around 1510, just 90 MT/s shy of DDR 1600 standards.
Since I only have the stock fan on the processor right now I'm being conservative with the overclocking. If I get bored in the next few months I might get an aftermarket fan and heatsink once there are some decent choices out there and see if I can bump it up to around 3.6 Ghz. The Lynnfield series really seem to handle overclocking well.

 Re: New PC
I have 2 500GB HDs in my old system that I'll be moving over for file storage as well. Apps and games will be installed on the faster VelociRaptor drive and everything else will go on the slower 500GB drives. I'm hoping solid state drives will be larger and cheaper by the time these are filled up so I'll have a good excuse to get one. They are still way to much $$ for a 200+ GB drive.
BTW, brushless motor fans are the bomb. If you want to seriously cut down on the noise level of your PC replace all of your case fans with brushless motor fans. They barely make a noise even when maxed out.
